Struggling with loneliness? Reach out to a helpline for free support in Belgium

Loneliness is something that everyone experiences from time to time. But when loneliness doesn't go away, it can start to have a serious impact on your mental and physical wellbeing. If you're struggling with these symptoms of chronic loneliness, reach out to one of 4 helplines in Belgium for support.
  • Connecting with people on a shallow level only.
  • Feeling that your physical and/or mental health is suffering.
  • Wanting to connect with others but feeling held back by social anxiety.
  • Drinking or using substances to cope with negative feelings.
  • Feeling lonely whether you're surrounded by others or alone.
  • Feeling fatigued and low in energy.
  • Feeling extremely tired and even burnt out when you try to socialize.
  • Being unable to develop deep, meaningful connections with others.
When loneliness is experienced for a long time, it's usually because you're not connecting with others on a deep level. People were made to experience meaningful connections, so when we feel disconnected from others, it can have a negative impact on our wellbeing.
You may be reluctant to ask for help, especially if it feels like nobody will relate to you and understand what you're going through. But getting help can relieve the emotional burden you're carrying and help you feel less isolated. There are compassionate helpline volunteers and counselors in Belgium that want to support you.
If you are ready to talk to someone about how lonely you feel, you can contact a hotline in Belgium for free and confidential support.

We’ve partnered with ThroughLine to compile a list of resources for support to address a variety of possible issues.

If you have a negative experience, please know it is not your fault; help is available. Submit a report by following our guidance here, and consider contacting one of the resources above.
